01Local SEO for dentists

Three practices get the map.

When someone searches for a dentist, Google shows a map with three practices before any website. Local SEO for dentists is the work of becoming one of those three, in the suburbs your patients actually live in.

Every one of these shows a map pack first. Which three practices it shows depends on three things.

  1. 1

    Distance

How close you are to the searcher. You can't move, but you can make sure Google has your exact location right.

  2. 2

    Relevance

How well your profile and website match the treatment they typed. A practice with an implants page and "implants" in its services beats one that just says "general dentistry".

  3. 3

    Prominence

How well known Google thinks you are: reviews, listings, links and mentions. Steady work beats a one-off fix here.

Urgent searches are won on the map. Someone with a cracked tooth on a Saturday types "emergency dentist open now", checks which of the three practices is open, and rings. Accurate hours, a phone that gets answered and a clear "emergency appointments" service do most of the work.

Researched treatments are won on your website. Someone thinking about implants or Invisalign reads, compares and comes back over weeks. A detailed treatment page, real photos of your rooms and team, clear payment options and good reviews bring them back to book. If you want the basics of the map side first, read how to rank higher on Google Maps.

02Dental SEO services

What our dental SEO services cover.

SEO services for dentists come down to six jobs, done properly and kept up. This is what we do for Sydney practices.

01

Google Business Profile

The profile that decides whether you appear in the map pack. Most dental profiles are only half filled in.

  • "Dentist" as the primary category
  • Extras like "Cosmetic dentist" or "Emergency dental service" only where they're real
  • Your booking link: HotDoc, HealthEngine or your own system
  • Public holiday and after-hours times kept accurate
  • Every treatment listed as a service
02

On-page dental SEO

Your website telling Google, clearly, that you are a dentist in a particular suburb.

  • Title tags and headings that name the treatment and suburb
  • Dentist schema with your hours, address and phone
  • Name, address and phone matching Google exactly
  • A Google map on the contact page
03

Treatment pages

One page per treatment that earns its own searches, written for patients, not for search engines.

  • Implants, Invisalign, whitening, wisdom teeth, emergency
  • What happens, how long it takes, what affects the cost
  • Plain words, no promised results
04

Suburb pages

Patients rarely travel far for a dentist. Pages for the suburbs around you help you show up there.

  • Real details: parking, transport, nearby landmarks
  • Which treatments people from that suburb come in for
  • No copy and paste pages with the suburb swapped
05

Reviews

A steady flow of new Google reviews, and replies that protect patient privacy.

  • A simple ask after the appointment, by SMS or email
  • Replies that never confirm someone is a patient
  • No gifts, discounts or draws for reviews
06

Listings and directories

Your practice listed the same way everywhere Google looks for confirmation.

  • Apple Business Connect, Bing Places, Yelp, Foursquare
  • Healthdirect, HotDoc and HealthEngine profiles
  • The health directories already ranking for "dentist" near you
Services we commonly add to a dental Google profile:
  • General dentistry
  • Check-up and clean
  • Emergency dental appointments
  • Fillings
  • Root canal treatment
  • Tooth extraction
  • Wisdom teeth removal
  • Dental implants
  • Crowns
  • Bridges
  • Veneers
  • Teeth whitening
  • Invisalign
  • Clear aligners
  • Children's dentistry
  • Child Dental Benefits Schedule
  • Dentures
  • Denture repairs
  • Gum disease treatment
  • Night guards for teeth grinding
  • Sleep dentistry
  • Dental sedation
  • Cosmetic dentistry

Only the ones you actually provide.

03Treatment pages

One treatment, one page, one search.

A dental website with a single "Services" page is asking Google to guess. These are the treatments we usually give their own page, the kind of search each one answers, and what the person typing it needs.

  1. Emergency dentistemergency dentist open nowUrgent
  2. Toothachetoothache dentist Saturday PenrithUrgent
  3. Root canal treatmentroot canal dentist LiverpoolUrgent

  8. Teeth whiteningteeth whitening near meResearching
  9. Check-up and cleandentist near meRoutine
  10. Children's dentistrybulk billed dentist for kidsFamily
  11. Family dentistfamily dentist KellyvilleFamily

Urgent pages are short and fast. Your phone number at the top, when you can see people, what an emergency appointment involves and where to park.

Researching pages go deep. What the treatment involves, how many visits, what changes the cost, payment plans and health fund rebates, and who it may not suit.

Family pages answer the parent. If you bulk bill eligible children under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, say so clearly, because parents search for it.

Then a page count that adds up. Type site: and your web address into Google. Under 30 pages usually means Google has little to rank you for. Treatment and suburb pages get most practices well past that.

04Dental SEO marketing and AHPRA

Ranking within AHPRA's rules.

Dentists advertise under the National Law and AHPRA's advertising guidelines. We write and optimise everything with them in mind, because a ranking isn't worth a complaint.

What we do

✓Describe treatments factually, including that results vary
✓State the terms clearly on any offer or discount
✓Ask every patient for a review the same simple way
✓Reply to reviews without confirming anyone is a patient
✓Use your real address, and report fake listings near you

What we never do

✕Put patient testimonials about treatment on your website or ads
✕Call you "the best" or claim you're better than other dentists
✕Promise outcomes like "pain-free" or "perfect smile guaranteed"
✕Offer gifts, discounts or prize draws in exchange for reviews
✕Create listings at fake or virtual addresses to cover more suburbs

Watch the titles. "Orthodontist", "periodontist" and "paediatric dentist" are specialist titles in Australia. A general dentist who offers Invisalign can say so, but shouldn't be described or categorised as an orthodontist. That applies to your Google categories too.

Your Google reviews are a separate question. AHPRA's guidance generally treats reviews on sites you don't control differently from testimonials you publish yourself. Leave them where they are, and don't copy the clinical ones onto your website or into ads.

This is general information, not legal advice. Read AHPRA's advertising guidelines and the Dental Board of Australia's guidance on ahpra.gov.au, and check anything you're unsure about with them or your professional association.

05Choosing a dental SEO company

Six questions before you sign.

Plenty of dental SEO agencies sell the same package to every practice. Ask these six questions of any dental SEO company, including us.

1

Who owns the profile and the website?

You should. Your Google Business Profile, website, domain and analytics should be in your practice's name, with the agency added as a manager.

2

How will rankings be reported?

Ask for a geo-grid: your map ranking checked from many points across your area. One screenshot taken from the agency's office tells you very little.

3

Which treatments will you target?

"Dentist near me" is only one search. The plan should name the treatments you want more of, like implants or Invisalign, and the suburbs you want them from.

4

How long is the contract?

Know the minimum term, and whether the pages they built stay with you if you leave.

5

Do they know AHPRA's rules?

If they suggest testimonials on your homepage or a "best dentist in Sydney" headline, they don't. You carry the risk, not them.

!

Do they guarantee number one?

That's a red flag. Google itself says no one can guarantee a #1 ranking. A good dental SEO agency explains what it will do, and shows you the movement.

06How it runs

From check-up to bookings.

Four stages, in the order that moves rankings fastest for a dental practice. You approve anything patient-facing before it goes live.

  1. 01Week 1

    Examine

A geo-grid scan for your main treatment searches, your profile and reviews next to the top 10 practices nearby, and a check for spam listings.

  2. 02Weeks 2 to 4

Category, treatments as services, descriptions, booking link, hours including public holidays, photos of your practice and team.

  3. 03Weeks 5 to 8

    Pages

Title tags, headings, Dentist schema and a map, then treatment and suburb pages, written to AHPRA's guidelines and linked together.

  4. 04Weeks 9 to 12, then ongoing

    Prominence

Apple, Bing, Yelp, Foursquare and health directories. Weekly posts, geotagged photos and a steady review rhythm.

FAQ

Dental SEO questions.

What practice owners and managers ask us before getting started.

SEO for dentists is the work that gets your practice found on Google when people nearby search for a dentist or a treatment. It covers your Google Business Profile, your ranking in the map pack, your website's treatment and suburb pages, reviews and listings, so you show up for searches like "dentist near me" or "dental implants Parramatta".

A dental SEO agency sets up and maintains everything Google uses to decide which practices to show: the right profile category and services, accurate hours and booking links, treatment pages, suburb pages, schema, listings and a review process. A good dental SEO company also reports rankings across your whole area and keeps your marketing within AHPRA's advertising rules.

Our SEO services for dentists cover your Google Business Profile, on-page SEO with Dentist schema, treatment pages, suburb pages, review requests and privacy-safe replies, and listings on Apple, Bing, Yelp, Foursquare and health directories. Then weekly posts, photos and ranking reports.

Local SEO for dentists focuses on the Google Maps results, the three practices shown above the normal results. Google ranks them on distance, relevance and prominence. Dentist local SEO improves the last two: a complete, accurate profile, pages that match each treatment, and reviews and listings that show you're a real, established practice.

Local dentist SEO starts with your Google Business Profile: "Dentist" as the primary category, your real address, accurate hours, every treatment listed and regular photos. Then match it on your website with the same name, address and phone, a map, and pages for your treatments and nearby suburbs. Reviews and consistent listings do the rest.

"Dentist" is the right primary category for most general practices. Extra categories such as "Cosmetic dentist" or "Emergency dental service" can help, but only where they reflect real services. Avoid specialist categories like orthodontist or periodontist unless a registered specialist practises there.

Yes. Google Ads puts you at the top while you pay for each click. Dental SEO marketing earns your place in the map and the normal results, so the clicks don't cost you each time. Many practices use both. If you want to know more about ads, see our Google Ads service.

Under AHPRA's advertising guidelines, you shouldn't use testimonials about clinical care in your own advertising, including your website and ads. Reviews on sites you don't control, like Google, are generally treated differently. This is general information, not legal advice, so check AHPRA's current guidelines.

Thank the person and keep it general. Don't confirm they're a patient or mention any treatment, even if they did in their review, because that can disclose health information. For a negative review, invite them to contact the practice directly.

It depends on how many treatments and suburbs you want to rank for, and how competitive the practices around you are. The free 3-minute video review shows where you rank now and what's missing. If you'd like us to fix it, we quote from there.

Profile fixes can move map rankings within weeks. Ranking for competitive treatments like implants or Invisalign across several suburbs usually takes a few months of steady pages, reviews and listings. Anyone who promises a guaranteed #1 is a red flag.

Make sure you own your profile and website, ask how rankings are reported (a geo-grid across your area is best), ask which treatments they'll target, check the contract length, and make sure they know AHPRA's rules. Skip anyone guaranteeing a #1 spot.

Barely anything. You just do what you do best: Turn phone calls into customers.
